For the past few weeks I have been reading a book called “The Principle of the Path” by Andy Stanley. Unfortunately, with my schedule I have been unable to read as much as I want to. However, as I can I have been inching along chapter by chapter.
Today, I read a chapter on asking others for advice. Basically using other’s lives as roadmaps for our own. I was really convicted when I read about how often we forsake the wisdom of those who have been where we want to be or are there currently, instead choosing to seek advice from people who are either in the same spot we are or even farther behind us. As I sat reading that portion of the chapter, I thought about how often I have sought wisdom from peers that are where I am in life when God has brought so many people into my life that have much more life experience and wisdom (I am trying to avoid calling them old!).
As I look to the future, especially as I am embarking on the journey of fatherhood, I want to do a better job of sponging knowledge from those who have been there, from both their mistakes and successes. God has made people into clear blue prints for success and failure. I want to read those blueprints and become a man who will one day be sought out as a Godly blue print for others…
