thankful for my mom…

Today Erin, our kids, and I took my mom out for lunch for her birthday which was on the 2nd.   And other than Maeven getting pretty loud and us having to shush her a little bit we had a great time.   I am very thankful for another birthday that God has given my Mom, and even more thankful that God gave me such a Godly mother.

When Erin and I visit with supporting churches or potential supporters one thing I always share with them is about how thankful I was to have parents that encouraged me to spend time in prayer and the Bible daily.  Parents that taught me the importance of having a growing relationship with Christ.   My Mom was the one who would check in with me about whether or not I was taking my devotional time and most times the one who would be able to figure out when I was struggling with something and encourage me to honor God no matter what.  That influence has played a huge part in my desire to disciple and work with the teens here, because I know so many of them don’t have the Godly parents that I was blessed with.

So to sum things up, I am so very glad and thankful for the mother God gave me and I hope she has many more Birthdays that we can enjoy with her!

time my boy…

This past week has been really crazy with work and so I haven’t been able to be at home as much with my kids as I would have liked.   Unfortunately by the time I have gotten home most nights might daughter has already been in bed.  My son’s sleep schedule is a little different and so I have been able to spend some time with him.  Usually I get to do his late night feedings and one or two of his morning ones.   And he is now becoming more and more interactive and smiley so it is just a huge blessing after a long day to see that little smile looking back at me.   Can’t wait for tonight’s time with him!

kisses from Maeven…

My daughter is an absolute sweet heart, but unless she is sick or just tired she hasn’t ever truly been a cuddler.  She likes to sit near Erin and I but very seldom likes to be held.  However this week she has gotten into giving kisses.   A few weeks back whenever Erin would give the kids a kiss she would had a “muah” sound.   So this week Maeven has taken to leaning in and giving Erin and I big kisses followed by a loud “MAAAHH!”  This morning when I was getting ready for work she ran into me with her arms being held up for me to pick her up.   I picked her up and I got several “MAAAHH” kisses.   I gotta say, I have a sweetie pie for a daughter!

feeling froggy…

When I was growing up my mom would occasionally check us out videos from the local library and one of our favorites were the old Our Gang/ Little Rascals videos.   Besides liking the Spanky and Alfalfa characters one of my favorites was the raspy voiced Froggy.  Unfortunately today my allergies have gotten the best of me and that’s what I sound like!   Even my daughter sorta looked at me funny when I was talking to her this morning.   Generally speaking my accent isn’t too bad and so on Wednesdays when I place orders with the various vendors we deal with at the Rec Center they understand me.  Yet, today the Froggy voice is causing me to have to repeat myself repeatedly.   Hopefully with the help of some cough drops tomorrow I will get back to sounding like myself and not so froggy!

caffeine withdrawals…

Today is my day to write a complaining post.   One of the perks of being a the Rec Center whenever I was tired or not feeling well was that I was able to get my caffeine fix and enjoy some pop or coffee.  However, back at the end of last year I started having health problems and my doctor said no caffeine.  It was a huge thing for me to let go of, but for my own health and well-being I gave it up.   After all there were some caffeine free pops I could still enjoy.   However, on my next visit the doctor informed me that with my condition I shouldn’t have any pop as the carbonation was just as bad for me as the caffeine was.  Immediately I began to shake thinking of never tasting my glorious Dr. Pepper or Ale-8 again.

So today I am here at the Rec Center, and it’s pretty warm.   So with the warmth I am getting people nice icy cold Cokes and various other soda pops.  Yet, I can only shake through my caffeine withdrawals and not enjoy any of that delicious carbonated flavor.   I hope I can remain strong, because the water isn’t cutting it right now!!!
