Last week, Erin and I had the priveledge to attend a missions conference @ Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, TN. We were both really blessed by the people of the church. From the kindness and generosity they showed us all week to the many new friends we made. It was also a huge encouragement to hear what all God is doing around the World. I also admit sharing about our ministry, plus hearing about what God is doing else where really helped relight a fire under me to get more passionate about God’s work here in Beattyville.

We also had a unique opportunity to see just how close the family of God is. Erin was able to meet people who have been going to Mozambique and even knew people she met when she was there. We also made many connections with believers who knew friends of ours all around the world. It was so neat just to see how God works in our lives building relationship webs among people that we could have never guessed. I am so excited to see what God is going to continue to do in the future by bringing people into our lives and so thankful for those relationships He has already provided.

Today Erin and I had some free time this afternoon before we have to go out for anything with the missions conference. So as I was working on a powerpoint presentation for when we present our ministry tomorrow night, Erin put the tv on Animal Planet where we began watching Dogs 101. And finally I got to see the episode all about Boxers. I have always been a huge English Bulldog fan and still am, but as sat here learning all about boxers I began to realize how much I miss my Angel and that I may very well end up being a boxer guy for life!

Yesterday, Erin and I enjoyed an opportunity to speak to a high school Sunday school class in Knoxville, TN. We spent about 15 minutes or so sharing about our ministry in southeastern KY with the kids and then another 15 or so just answering questions that they had about our ministry. When we finished we were asked to stand in the center of the group as the kids laid hands on us and prayed for us. Erin and I were truly blessed as they prayed. To hear so many teens who were praying out loud with passion for the Lord in front of their peers was amazing. Definitely a huge blessing for us!

This spring semester has gotten off to a difficult start with our FCA huddles in the local schools. Due to the fact that the snow has caused so many days of school to be canceled we haven’t really seen our kids very much. Today is the first time since December that we were able to have a complete week in both the middle and high schools. Several of our students were out, but I was very happy to see all the ones who remembered to come back and we even had a new student in the middle school!!! Please keep us in your prayers this spring as we try to grow these huddles and encourage our kids to be sold out for Christ and really develop a close relationship w/ Him.

As many as you saw by my last post this weekend, it’s official I am going to be a daddy. This has came with a huge range of emotions for me so far. The biggest ones being joy and excitement. I honestly can’t wait to have my own child to raise and share that adventure with Erin!! As all dad’s I am really rooting for a boy, but am more than anything praying for a healthy child and good health for Erin through all the coming months!

I have also felt other emotions. I broke out my ipod when I first found out we were having a kid and kept listening to the chorus of Don Williams’ “Rake and a Ramblin Man” which asks over and over “Do I look like a daddy to you?” Also as I think about all the lifestyle changes I am going to have to make and mature even more than when I got married as well as all I have to do financially and to the house to get ready for a child, I keep thinking about the verse where Paul talks about “putting away childish things.” Lots to think about and get ready for.

But over all I am super super excited and can’t wait to hold my baby in October. Plus, look what a cool daddy the baby has waiting!!!

Today has been a nasty rain slushy day here in Beattyville. The good news is that it has given us a boost in a normally slow day here at the Rec Center. Many of the guys who couldn’t work outside today came in and bowled and many ladies who bowl in our leagues are scared about future weather this week and came in to get their league bowling done early in case things outside get worse.

At the moment I am getting things put together to head home for the evening and hopefully get various things done around the house before settling in to an evening of American Idol and White Collar. For some reason this spring 2010 season seems to have a lot of good shows that I like on. Thank goodness for Tivo!!! Hope everyone has a great night and is safe!

a busy weekend of outreaches…

This past weekend was a super busy weekend for Erin and I as we had various ministry events going on.

On Saturday night Erin had the FCA girls over to the house for a Valentine’s beauty outreach. Erin was able to share a devotion with the girls on the importance of inner beauty and what God looks for in someone vs. what the world looks at. The girls also enjoyed a spaghetti dinner and Cindy Coburn, who also works with KMM, helped the girls do a session on make up and skin care. It seemed like everyone really enjoyed themselves.

Last night we had our annual Super Bowl Outreach party at the Rec. Center. While our numbers were lower than usual, the halftime video featuring Carson Palmer, Chad Pennington and Kurt Warner did an excellent job of sharing with our students the importance of not only having a relationship w/ God, but also once you do the importance of having an impact for Him with those around us! I really felt as though God was moving in the lives of our students that were there last night and hopefully some will make decisions for Christ soon!

On a funny note, I had student show up for the party last night about an hour early. He asked me what time the quarterbacks were going to be there. I told him we were showing a dvd at half time featuring them, but no one was coming. It still didn’t quite register and he asked me what time they would be doing autographs….fun times!!!
